Singing exams consist of three accompanied songs at Grades 1-5 and four accompanied songs at Grades 6-8, chosen by the teacher and candidate from the appropriate lists in the current syllabus, an accompanied traditional song, sight-singing and aural tests.
Total marks in all individual practical exams are 150.
100 marks are required to achieve a PASS.
120 marks to pass with MERIT.
130 marks to pass with DISTINCTION
There are eight grades of assessment.
The Prep Test is designed for the younger student or for somebody who needs to gain confidence. Working towards this early goal encourages the development of good technique and sound musicianship. It is also an ideal introduction to the experience of taking an exam!
The Prep test is designed to be as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. No marks are awarded and there is no passes or fail. At the end of the assessment every candidate is rewarded with a certificate, which includes positive and helpful comments from the examiner.
The Prep Test is designed to encourage the building of good musical and technical foundations before pupils enter for graded exams.
